Labor and Delivery....already?
Date: 07/28/2008

Last Thursday was a bit scary for us. Let me tell you the back story first. On Sunday I was in the living room with my mom and she commented on my swollen ankles. I hadn't even noticed them so I was surprised to see them that big. The next day Justin and I agreed that I should call my OB just to let them know (at every appt they ask if I have any swelling and up until this point I have said no, including my appt 3 days before this). The nurse asked if I had a headache or any other symptoms and I told her no. She wanted me to come in to get my blood pressure checked but since I worked so far away she suggested I go to my local pharmacy and check it there. I agreed.

Fast forward to Thursday...

That evening I was at home with Justin, my mom, Chris and Mia having dinner. Afterward I showed my mom the swelling I have been experiencing in my ankles. She asked me if I had taken my blood pressure and I told her that I had forgotten to do it all week. She wanted to take me that night but I still needed to finish packing for our trip to the Dude Ranch that we had planned for the next day. But when I mentioned that my head was really hurting bad and I had a migraine that morning she insisted and I agreed. She drove me down to CVS and when I checked it I was shocked.....144/95. My BP is usually 110/70, so this was really high for me. I tried to stay calm. We got home and I called the OB's office and the dr on call called me back. She was a very unfriendly lady that made me feel dumb for even questioning what I should do next. She ever so rudely told me to go straight to Labor and Delivery and get monitored. According to her I would stay in the hospital over night or be sent home for bedrest. Great....

My mom and Justin took me to L&D at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. Needless to say I wish we would have already taken our hospital tour because we had no idea where to go. We went down all the wrong hallways and stopped for directions a few times. We finally got to L&D and I was hooked up to a contraction monitor and a fetal monitor. When they took my blood pressure it was already going down and the swelling in my feet was decreasing as well....in spite of the long, hot walk we took to L&D. I'm pretty sure prayers were being answered before we even got in the hospital doors. After 3 hours of monitoring and tests I was sent home and told that I was fine. No one could explain the high BP but I was told to take it easy over the weekend and to go see my OB first thing Friday morning. At the OB's office I was tested again and monitored for a while and everything was back to normal, THANK GOD!

Justin and I spent the weekend laying around watching movies and just relaxing. We missed the trip to the ranch but I think my body was able to rest...and I needed it!

Now that I am back at work my hands are swollen and my back is killing me. Hmmm...makes me think that Deacon likes being home as much as I do. :)

80 Days and Counting
Date: 08/22/2008

Yep, 80 days...that's all we have left until D-Day (delivery day). However, little Deacon can chose to come a bit early and surprise us all. If he is like me, he will be uncomfortably early (like when you arrive somewhere even earlier than you have planned). And if he is like Justin he will be right on time or casually late. Let's hope he is like mom on this one!

Lately Deacon has been flipping around like he's on a caffeine rush or adrenaline high. Most of the time its fun to feel him but when he gets on my bladder I have to remind him that I don't like that one bit.

I have a new pregnancy symptom....oh and its a real joy (insert sarcasm face here). Its called PUPPPs. Here is how Wikipedia describes it:

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP)...[1] is a chronic hives-like rash that strikes some women during pregnancy. Although extremely annoying for its sufferers (because of the itch), it presents no long-term risk for either the mother or unborn child. PUPPP frequently begins on the stomach and spreads to the legs, feet, arms, chest, and neck.

Fun times hu? This little diddy of a rash started small and didn't have me too concerned. There were a few tiny red bumps on my belly that would itch a little but then they went away before my OB appt (typical hu?). Then within a few days of my appt it came back and probably within 2 days it was really bad and getting worse. I tried the topical cream the OB suggested and then they called me in a steroid (safe to take while pg). So far it has cleared up a lot on my belly but my hands and feet still itch like mad. The good news....I read that it only happens in the first pregnancy.

62 days...still counting
Date: 09/08/2008

We had an ultrasound last Thursday and Deacon was a good boy. He let the doctor get some great shots of his face (you can see them in the photo album or on this main page). He is head down and in position for a natural birth. I was 30 weeks and 3 days at the appointment but he is measuring 31 weeks.

Yesterday (my mom's birthday) we went to Build a Bear and made a monkey for Deacon with a Texans uniform and we completed it with a recording of Deacon's heartbeat. So every time we want to hear it we can squeeze the monkey's hand and listen. I love it!!!

45 Days...still counting
Date: 09/25/2008

Well Deacon has had his first official hurricane experience. It was a doozie too! We were without power for 12 days although I don't think he seemed to mind. The day of the hurricane he was very active. I read that babies can feel the change in the pressure. Or maybe he could feel my stress level rising? In the past week I think he hit a growth spurt. I also think he joined a gym or something because his little muscles are strong now. He punches and kicks me all day long and its no longer cute or fun for me. It hurts! Sometimes it doubles me over in pain, sometimes it makes me jump, sometimes it just makes me mad :) A few of the movemements have even left me sore for a few days.

I'm currently in my 33rd week. Deacon is "term" at 37 weeks so technically I could have a healthy baby boy as soon as like 3.5 weeks from now. That seems so soon but with all this pain it seems far away too. If he decides to wait until his due date then I have 6.5 weeks. Now that REALLY seems like a long time away for me. I just can't wait to see what he looks like....let's hope he gets Justin's pretty eyes!

3 weeks to the day!
Date: 10/20/2008

I am full term today...so come on Deacon! I hope he is like his mommy and is early to everything. :) I went to the OB Friday and I am 1cm dilated and 70% effaced. I know that really doesn't mean anything but it was so nice to know that all of my pain and suffering has put me a little closer to D-day.

Today I am having really bad lower back pain....back labor perhaps? I have no idea but I do know that it hurts and its not going away with Tylenol. Deacon is much calmer today but that could be b/c we had a restless night. Remi decided he needed to sleep with us and when he does I can never get comfortable.

Anyways...21 days until my due date...no telling how many days until we actually meet him!

12 Days until Due Date
Date: 10/29/2008

Come on Deacon....get things going in there and come out already! Your uncles and cousins and Mimi all call me every day to tell me their plans for the rest of the week. They think you are coming out on their schedule, funny stuff hu? Uncle Chris is going hunting this weekend and is worried you will come then. Uncle Mark has plans too and can only come to the hospital afterwards. Mimi thinks that you will come around her work schedule, yeah right. And can you believe that Aunt Cindy left for Mexico last weekend and expects you to stay put until she gets back. Don't these people realize that Its All About You now? :) I say you come out today and see who really loves you enough to drop their plans and show up to see you!

4 Days Left...does that date even matter?
Date: 11/06/2008

I'm due in 4 days. I was convinced I would have Deacon early but that hasn't been the case. Maybe I should pretend my due date is in two weeks so that on Monday I'm not even more miserable. I've been feeling a lot better since I am taking it easy. I've been working from home and its really helped. I'm not retaining as much fluid so I'm not swelling nearly as much as I was, my back isn't hurting like it does at work and my feet are feeling better.

Tomorrow is my 39w4d appointement, hopefully I get some kind of good news!

I'm in labor!
Date: 11/11/2008

I am at the hospital and am in labor. I came in yesterday (Monday) and was sent home to labor on my own. After several hours at home in pain I came back up here and was admitted. I am hoping Deacon will be here in the next few hours.

UPDATE:

Deacon is here! He was born today (Nov 11) at 11:13am. He is 8lbs 3oz and 21.25 inches long. He's a healthy little guy and already has a big group of visitors.

Updates on Deacon
Date: 11/18/2008

Yesterday was Deacon's first pediatrician appointment. He has gained back all he weight he lost in the hospital and then some. he is now 8lbs 5oz (up 2 oz from birth). The doctor was very happy with his progress. She said he is in the 90% for his height, meaning only 10% of kids this age are this tall....looks like we may have another basketball player in our house, although his daddy thinks he will play football.

I'll be adding pictures to the albums, check out our new little man.

Deacon, Deacon, Deacon
Date: 01/06/2009

That's all I say all day...Deacon....Deacon....Deacon, Deacon, Deacon. I sing it and he laughs and just smiles so big. He's adorable...really..he is!

Deacon had his 8 week appt today and he got his vaccines. It was so sad to see him get 3 shots but he was such a big boy and only cried for a minute. As soon as he was in mommy's arms he stopped....momma's boy maybe?!?! I hope so!

He has grown so much. In the past 8 weeks he has grown 3 inches, gained 3lbs 7oz, and his head is 1.25 inches bigger. If you haven't seen him lately you may be surprised by his size.

Deacon has a very special day coming up on Jan 18th. He will be dedicated at church that day. We are having him dedicated at Oak Forest Baptist Church, grandma and grandpa's (Justin's parents) church. I am really looking forward it!

First day of "school"
Date: 02/02/2009

Deacon started "school" today. He is going to daycare at my work. I love that he is so close to me but I hate that someone else has him all day. I've gone down twice to see him and he has been asleep both times. I don't want to mess up the schedule they have down there but I have to see my baby.

There are only two other babies in his room right now. One more will be joining him at the end of the month. He is the youngest one right now though. They had all three babies' diapers on the counter and his were so tiny compared to the other two.

I'll try to get some pictures of his class and him in his class soon for the website.

DONE! Now I will be able to blog from this point forward on our current lives :)
